St George- Home Away from Home

Jerrick's parents live in St George and it has been a little escape for us while we are in Vegas. It is really nice to have them so close as we hardly ever saw them when we were living in Houston. We love getting away for a weekend and have done it several times since living in Vegas. Ryder is always down for a road trip too.

Ryder loved playing Frisbee in the River. Jerrick is always nostalgic of his days in skim board competitions at the River. He always takes the opportunity to bring his skim board and attempt his old tricks. Sometimes he can actually still do them ;)

Visitors in Vegas!

In April, my Mom and Sister, Kim came to visit in Las Vegas! It's nice living somewhere that has plenty to offer. We wished Katy could have joined us so all the Kummer girls would be reunited, but she made it for the next trip! (More to come later...)

Having family in town actually gives me an excuse to do a lot of fun things and take advantage of the city. We stayed downtown on the strip and had an amazing view of the city. (Complaining gets you free upgrades!)

We did a lot of shopping and site seeing for a quick weekend. We also ate some amazing food! We went to the Bellagio buffet, Serendipity, and Hash House a go-go just to name a few.

We got to go to a couple really fun shows. First we went to Jersey Boys, and the next night Le Reve. They were very different shows, but I loved both! 

Saying goodbye is always the worst! But just makes us look forward to the next trip!

California Lovin

Vegas has so many perks! One of which, is living so close to California. In 3 or 4 hours we can be at the beach, visiting family/friends, Disneyland... so many fun things in CA. We went last March and were able to visit with Jerrick's Uncle Kenny and see some of Disney land and Lego Land. I was so happy to spend some time with Tanne, such an amazing friend from my Tucson days. She took us to Newport Pier and we experienced Balboa bars mmmm.

Bear with me... I have been terrible but really want to catch up on our memories from the past year! I think the blog is mostly for my own reference, but anyone who reads it is hopefully not too bothered by a bunch of posts at once!

Last year we went to NASCAR! It was an experience to say the least! I had never been before, and I don't think you understand why ear plugs are such a necessity until you see (and hear) for yourself. Jerrick is just a little boy when it comes to cars, so he loved it! Obviously we had to look the part... we had fun with our outfits!

Christmas Time

I am finally getting around to finishing up taking down Christmas Decorations and getting settled in back at home. We had such a fun Christmas with Jerrick's family this year. We headed to St. George with his parents and were able to see a few of his siblings as well! After Christmas, we headed up to snowy land for a few days to see other family. After about a day of snow Jerrick said, "Should we just go home early?". Haha... we are not exactly snow people.

The ten kids in Jerrick's family all pitched in on a joint present for the parents. They just kept unwrapping and unwrapping little presents and it was so fun to watch.

Jerrick got a new camera for Christmas and we had a blast figuring out how to use it and take some fun pictures. We had some pretty sweet action shots of Ryder who got a frisbee from Grandma and Grandpa and was obviously in heaven.

It was fun to see the striking resemblance of my mountain man husband and his dad (photographed just a few years earlier...)

We got to take some really fun family pictures while we were there. Jerrick's sister, Crystal does an amazing job! We had a few really fun ones. Hard to pick which to put up on the wall... Favorites anyone?

We also got to see some of my family while we were up in Northern Utah. It was so fun to get together with both sisters and their families and some grandparents. So fun to take pictures of my niece and nephew!

 With all the nose picking and messy eating, the key to cleanliness is frequent manicures. Bryson looks like he is enjoying his :)

We had a great holiday and it is a little sad that it always ends so soon... but now we are back in the real world with school and work! It really is time to finish putting away the decorations for another year!

Baby It's Cold Outside

Oh, now that Jerrick and I live together again we are back to our dorky selves. Check out our video to get you in the Christmas spirit. Maybe no one else will, but we sure thought we were pretty funny.

 

 

Reunited

Well, we knew the time would come that we would have to say goodbye to Houston, Texas. However, that did not make the day any easier! We grew to love the people in Texas and all the friends we made in Houston. Sure it's humid, filled with west nile mosquitos, and the traffic would make anyone pull their hair out... but it was home and we were sad to go. The worst part was that I would be sending Jerrick off to start medical school in Las Vegas and I couldn't follow him for 4 months! Yep, I had to finish off my program in Houston.

Those last months consisted of me living in a tiny town (population smaller than my high school) called Glen Rose, Texas for two months for my family medicine rotation. I did grow to love the simplicity of life and people. (It was the only rotation where they laughed when I asked them if parking was an issue.) Then, I was blessed to be able to do an elective rotation in Vegas to be near to Jerrick for a month. The last month I was back in Houston finishing up research.

I was able to make a few trips out to Vegas while I was away. Especially to see Jerrick at his White Coat Ceremony! The beginning of medical school is no picnic, but he is working so hard! I am so proud of him!

 

Then, he headed off to Houston to see me Graduate. I can't believe that I am done with the PA program at Baylor College of Medicine. Time flies! What a wonderful 2.5 years full of a lot of frustrations, hard work, sweat, tears, friends, laughs, and smiles. That's what life is all about! I had to present my research at a poster presentation and my research actually won first place (hey, I am excited about ANY sort of extra income!) Then, Jerrick and my amazing parents were there for my graduation. I definitely could not have done it without those three amazing people!

Well, after graduation I spent many evenings joining Jerrick in his studies to prepare for the PANCE. I took that dreadful test today and I am relieved that it is over. Now I just have to wait for the results... and try to RELAX for a few weeks before I start work. For the record, I am excited that I will no longer (perhaps ever) be joining Jerrick in late night studying. Am I really not a student anymore?! I am just thrilled that we are now reunited and living in Henderson TOGETHER!
